It’s fundraiser time! The Vegan Petsitter is one of many businesses participating in The Sanctuary Century 10% Fundraiser Day this Saturday, August 11.
The Sanctuary Century is a 100-mile charity bike ride around Portland, Oregon, to raise necessary funds for animal sanctuaries. After raising $15,000 each year in its first three years – totaling an impressive $45,000 for rescued animals – the fundraiser has raised its goal to $20,000 this year.
To help meet that goal, organizers have implemented a 10% fundraiser day, asking businesses to support the ride by donating 10% of their earnings on Saturday, August 11.
I still have availability for walks, sitting, baths, nail trims and overnight – please view my services page or contact me for more info.
This year’s recipients are Hope Animal Sanctuary, Out to Pasture Sanctuary, and Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest.
- Hope Animal Sanctuary is located in rural Mississippi and has rescued thousands of animals – including dogs, horses, pigs, chickens and more. Most are re-homed, but those who aren’t adopted out are able to become permanent sanctuary residents.
- Out to Pasture Sanctuary is in Estacada, Oregon and cares for abused, neglected or abandoned animals including pigs, rabbits, chickens, dogs, and large farmed animals. Although many of their animals came from sad situations, Out to Pasture’s mission is to show them kindness and compassion.
- Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest is located in Cle Elum, Washington and is home to seven very special chimpanzees who were released from biomedical research. Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest’s Facebook page is a must-follow, and their videos and pictures never fail to put a smile on my face. The Cle Elum Seven chimpanzees each have their own Facebook accounts, too! Meet Annie, Burrito, Foxie, Jamie, Jody, Missy and Negra.
How can you help? The 10% Fundraiser Day takes place online and in-person, and there are many retailers you can shop with from home! Buy some cute t-shirts from Herbivore Clothing Company (Portland, OR), stock up on vegan foodstuffs from Food Fight! Grocery (Portland, OR), add some of my favorite cookbooks to your library at Sarah’s Place (Victoria, B.C.), and order the best cinnamon rolls of your life from Cinnaholic (Berkeley, CA) – without even leaving your desk! But make sure you wait until August 11 for your purchase to count toward the fundraiser. For a full list of participating businesses, visit the event page. Happy shopping!
